About Wellness Week
Wellness Week, a new iteration of the Holiday Bike Challenge, is an event in support of Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada that takes place from October 7th – 17th.
October 10th is World Mental Health Day. On this day and throughout Wellness Week, supporters participate in fitness and wellness-based activities while raising funds to support young people involved in child welfare.
Exposure to trauma is almost universal amongst children and youth from the child welfare system. Young people who were exposed to abuse and neglect are almost four times more likely to be diagnosed with a mental health disorder and 17 times more likely to be hospitalized for a mental disorder compared to children in the general population.
Funds raised through Wellness Week support Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada programs that empower children and youth to access the tools and resources they need to overcome past trauma, build stability and create meaningful lives. This includes supports for mental health, education, employment and more.
Led by a volunteer committee, Wellness Week engages corporate teams, including from CIBC, RBC, BMO, National Bank and Northleaf Capital.
Previously, the event exclusively featured cycling and was held in late November. Since inception in 2020, it has raised nearly $300,000 for Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada.
